About The Event

“Empty Bowls” is an international project to fight hunger, personalized by artists and art organizations on a community level. It began in 1990 by Lisa Blackburn and Art teacher John Hartom, when they joined a drive to raise charitable funds in his Michigan community for hunger relief.

48,000,000 MILLION PEOPLE ARE FOOD INSECURE IN THE UNITED STATES. In Washington 1 OUT OF 7 ADULTS AND 1 OUT OF 5 KIDS live in households who struggle to put food on the table!

Every month in the Woodland community, 2,500 seniors, children, and disabled rely upon the local food bank, Woodland Action. Those living in the crisis of poverty often struggle to feel like their voices are heard. Many researchers have investigated the ties between art and progress toward social change. Woodland Action is striving to use art to open the conversation about economic struggle and the effect it has on the community.

Novice and experienced potters from Clark College Art Department have donated and created the bowls for this event. Arts of Clark County is a supporter and partner in linking the arts with community programs such as Woodland Action. This years fundraising efforts will provide Thanksgiving meals for the many families that rely upon the Woodland Action Food Bank.
