About The Event
“Empty Bowls” is an international project to fight hunger, personalized by artists and art organizations on a community level. It began in 1990 by Lisa Blackburn and Art teacher John Hartom, when they joined a drive to raise charitable funds in his Michigan community for hunger relief.
In Washington 1 OUT OF 9 ADULTS AND 1 OUT OF 6 KIDS live in households who struggle to put food on the table!
Every month in the Woodland community, 2,500+ seniors, children, and disabled adults rely upon the local food bank, Woodland Action. Those living in the crisis of poverty often struggle to feel like their voices are heard. Many researchers have investigated the ties between art and progress toward social change. Woodland Action is striving to use art to open the conversation about economic struggle and the effect it has on the community.
Novice and experienced potters from Clark College Art Department have donated and created the bowls for this event and local restaurants provide the soup served by WHS Culinary Arts students.
